Two young men have been arrested in connection with the brutal fatal shooting of Thomas McCarthy in west Dublin in July.
The victim, who was in his 50s, was shot up to eight times after answering the door of the house in Croftwood Park, Ballyfermot, to a lone, masked hitman on the morning of July 27.
Dad and granddad McCarthy was not involved in crime and was targeted after being dragged into a personal dispute, it is believed.
The two arrested men, in their 30s and mid-20s, were arrested this morning and are currently being questioned at Lucan and Clondalkin Garda Stations respectively.
Thomas had only returned to his family home in Croftwood Park a week before the brutal murder.
He had been living in Southend on Sea in England where he had raised a family.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Two men were arrested this morning in connection with a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Ballyfermot on Monday, 27th July.
"A man (mid-50s) sustained fatal gunshot wounds after opening the front door of his home at Croftwood Park in Ballyfermot at approximately 11am that day.
"The two men, aged in their early 30s and mid-20s, were arrested this morning under the provisions of Section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act 1999 and are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Lucan and Clondalkin Garda Stations."
He added: "Gardaí are continuing to appeal to any person with information on this fatal shooting incident to make contact with Ballyfermot Garda Station on 01 666 7200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
