Two years late, Steppenwolf’s ‘The Minutes’ schedules Broadway opening

The Steppenwolf Theatre Company production of Tracy Letts’ “The Minutes” is to open on Broadway — two years later than previously scheduled.

On Tuesday, the lead producer Jeffrey Richards said that director Anna D. Shapiro’s production will now play the Broadway theater known as Studio 54 and will open there April 7, 2022.

The intense show, set during a contentious town-council meeting, will begin preview performances in March. The play, a hit in Chicago in 2017, had been in its final previews on Broadway when the production was felled by the COVID-19 theater closures in New York.

Casting for the reboot has not been announced but it’s likely that many in the original Chicago cast will return to the show. In May, Shapiro announced her resignation as artistic director of Steppenwolf, effective at the end of August. Her replacement has yet to be named.
