Three-year-old girl dies after being hit by car on Albany Highway

Police are trying to establish how the little girl managed to walk onto the road.

A three-year-old girl has died after being hit by a car on Albany Highway in the southern Perth suburb of Gosnells.

Police say the girl wandered onto the highway shortly before 6:30am.

She was taken to Armadale-Kelmscott Hospital but died from her injuries.

The accident occurred in front of several houses fronting the highway.

Roads are closed in the area, including Albany Highway in both directions.

A WA Police spokeswoman said investigations into how she wandered onto the road were continuing.
