Two workers test positive for coronavirus at RAF Lossiemouth

Two workers have tested positive for coronavirus at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray.

The two contractors who were carrying out runway works for Volker Fitzpatrick tested positive although neither were displaying symptoms.

They have both been placed in isolation.

Station commander Chris Layden released the statement on Twitter- saying the 'necessary protocols' were being observed to minimise the risk of spread.

It reads: "As station commander I have been briefed that there have been two suspected cases of Covid-19 among the Volker Fitzpatrick workforce who are delivering the essential runway works here at RAF Lossiemouth.

"The workers identified have immediately been isolated and are undergoing further testing, in accordance with NHS Scotland recommendations."

A statement was issued online (Twitter)

It adds: "They were displaying no symptoms but were identified through testing which Volker Fitzpatrick has been voluntarily conducting with the consent of their workforce.

"RAF Lossiemouth is continuing to deliver its vital work in the interests of national security, but we are stringently observing the necessary protocols, to protect the military community and the wider Moray family.

"I am also assured that our partners Volker Fitzpatrick are doing the same."

Volker Fitzpatrick was awarded a £75million contact last year to undertake the runway works- which include resurfacing.
