Two workers die of suffocation while cleaning reactor tank of factory in Maharashtra's Palghar

MUMBAI: Two workers died of suffocation after they entered a reactor tank in a resin manufacturing company in Wada taluka of Maharashtra's Palghar district on Tuesday night.

While Sachin Bhoir (35) who entered the tank to clean it at around 10pm screamed for help, died of suffocation, another worker Kishore Farle (27), who jumped into the tank to help Bhoir also collapsed and died.

Both were residents of Biloshi village in Wada where the factory is located.

Wada police said Bhoir, who was on the night shift, entered the tank to carry out maintenance work. After a while co-workers heard him scream. Farle ran towards the tank and entered it to help Bhoir. Both were unable to come out of the tank and instead collapsed inside it. Other workers later pulled them out and rushed them to the Wada rural hospital where they were declared dead.

Bhoir is believed to have entered the tank without any safety gear. Farle too jumped into the tank without adhering to any safety precautions. The other workers had to wait for a while before they pulled out the two men.

Wada police have registered a case of accidental death. Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) officials who visited the site will submit their report to the police.

The bodies have been sent for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
