Two workers die after inhaling gas in Vizag pharma city

VISAKHAPATNAM: Two contract workers died after accidentally inhaling poisonous gas from an effluent treatment plant at Jawaharlal Nehru pharma city in Parawada, on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam, in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased were identified as Peddireddy Manikantha from Payakaraopeta in Visakha district, and Annamreddy Durga Prasad from Seetaramapuram in Tuni mandal of East Godavari district. Both were 22.

Manikantha and Prasad were on night shift at an intermediary treatment plant, which is linked to the main treatment plant located around three kilometres from the pharma units. The main treatment plant handles the effluents discharged by around 80 units in the pharma city.
