Two women were taken to hospital after a car smashed into a house in Bolton.

Firefighters cut the pair free from the vehicle following the crash in Lord Street, Westhoughton, on Saturday evening.

A woman in her 70s and a younger woman are said to have been involved.

Both were taken to Royal Bolton Hospital with the elderly lady having suffered injuries to her neck.

The front of the house, which is close to the junction with Church Street, sustained damage in the crash.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a collision involving two vehicles and a house in Lord Street.

"We treated two patients, one female in her 70s with neck injuries, and a younger female.

"Both were taken to Royal Bolton Hospital."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 5.58pm on Saturday.

"Two fire engines from Hindley and Atherton and a technical response unit from Leigh attended a road traffic collision in Lord Street.

"Crew used cutters and spreaders to release two people who were then conveyed to hospital.

"We were there for about 25 minutes."
