Two women sexually assaulted near Smithdown Road just weeks apart

Two women were sexually assaulted in the Smithdown Road area in the space of a few weeks.

Merseyside Police said the first attack happened on Saturday, April 3, when it was reported that a woman was sexually assaulted while walking from Smithdown Road along Durden Street.

A man made inappropriate comments towards the victim and sexually assaulted her.

In another assault on Thursday, April 22, a woman was walking along Smithdown Road near the junction with Tunstall Street when she was approached by two men, one of whom sexually assaulted her.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether the incidents are linked and both victims are being supported by specially trained officers.

Merseyside Police said they are "working hard to ensure that those responsible are removed from our streets."

The suspect in the incident near Tunstall Street is described as white male, 5ft 11in tall, slim build, in his late 20s with shaven blond hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing a grey zip up hoodie and baggy blue jeans.

The suspect in the incident on Durden Street is described as white male who spoke with an foreign accent.


Detective Inspector Paul Jones said: “We are very keen to speak with anyone with any information about the incidents in the Smithdown Road area who could help our enquiries.

“While some months have passed since the incidents we are still keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of either incident and may have seen anything suspicious.

“This was an extremely traumatic experience for the victims, and we are working hard to ensure that those responsible are removed from our streets.”
