Two women rushed to hospital after 'serious' smash on East Prescot Road

Two women were rushed to hospital after a 'serious' smash on East Prescot Road.

Merseyside Police rushed to East Prescot Road near the junction of Churchdown Grove at 5.44pm on Friday, September 30, following reports of a crash. Once at the scene officers found a silver Audi and a black Vauxhall had crashed.

Merseyside Police asked for assistance from the North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, who arrived at the scene shortly after. A spokesperson from the fire service confirmed all people inside the vehicles were out of their cars when firefighters arrived, except for one woman who remained inside "for comfort".

Both vehicles were on all four wheels when emergency services arrived, but suffered major damage. The Fire service said one of the women complained of hip and leg pain and was put onto a stretcher by emergency services before being rushed to Aintree Hospital by ambulance.

Another woman was given first aid at the scene by firefighters and was taken to hospital by a family member. Police have closed East Prescot Road in both directions while emergency services work within the scene.

A white tent was placed on the grass bank of East Prescot Road by Merseyside Fire and Rescue while one woman received medical treatment. The tent was taken away once the women left the scene.

The severity of the women's injuries are unclear, but The ECHO understands both casualties were conscious and breathing at the scene.
