Two women rushed to hospital after in hit and run in Edinburgh

Two women have been hospitalised after being mowed down by a motorcycle in Edinburgh.

The 26-year-old and 18-year-old were seriously injured in the horror accident last night.

The driver ran away after ploughing into the women and left the bike behind.

The red and white Honda 250 off-road motorcycle had been travelling on Hay Avenue before mounting the pavement and striking the pedestrians at around 2.45pm.

Both of the women were taken to hospital for treatment for their painful injuries.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes, of the Road Policing Unit in Edinburgh, said: "These women suffered serious injuries and are receiving treatment in hospital.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to come forward.

"You can pass on information by calling 101, quoting incident 1724 of 22 March."
