Two women rushed to hospital after horror three-vehicle crash in Co Antrim

Two women were rushed to hospital after a horror three-vehicle crash in Co Antrim.

The incident happened at around 9.30am yesterday on the Craigstown Road between Station and Ballylurgan roads.

It is believed that three children were passengers in one of the cars involved, but they were not hurt in the crash, Belfast Live reports.

A PSNI spokesperson said yesterday evening: "Following an earlier three vehicle road traffic collision, the Craigstown Road near Randalstown has re-opened.

"Two females were taken to hospital for their injuries."

Northern Ireland Ambulance Service has confirmed they took two people to hospital.

A NIAS spokesperson said they "received a 999 call at 09.17 on Monday, September 16 2019 relating to reports of an RTC at Craigstown Road, Randalstown".

They added: "NIAS dispatched three Emergency crews, two doctors, and one Hazard Area Response team to the scene. The Charity Air Ambulance was also dispatched to the incident.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance and a second patient was transferred to the Antrim Area Hospital."

Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service also rallied to the scene at 9.30am.

A spokesperson said they sent one appliance from Antrim and a second from Ballymena.

They added: "NIFRS was called to a three vehicle road traffic collision on Craigstown Road in Randalstown on 16 September 2019.

"In the first car, one woman suffered severe arm injuries and another woman suffered no obvious injuries. In the second car one female suffered hand injuries and there were three uninjured children.

"In the third car one male suffered no injuries. All casualties were rescued prior to the arrival of NIFRS. The incident was dealt with by 10.30am."
