Two women rushed to hospital after car ploughs into them in Johnstone

Officers are appealing for witnesses after two elderly women were knocked down by a car in Renfrewshire.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Johnstone at around 11.45am on Thursday.

Two women, aged 80 and 73, were crossing Walkinshaw Street at its junction with High Street when they were struck by a blue Nissan Note.

Both pensioners were raced to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment but their condition is currently unknown.

The male driver and his female passenger were unhurt but left badly shaken following the collision.

Police closed down the road for several hours while carrying out accident investigation work.

They are now appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area or have dash cam footage.

Sergeant Roy McCarney said: “I am appealing to people and motorists who were in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch with any information they may have.

“In particular, motorists with dash cams, please check your footage as it may have captured images which could assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1140 of 29 October, 2020.
