Two women killed in A487 crash involving a car and a lorry near Porthmadog

Two women have died in a crash involving a car and a lorry in Gwynedd.

North Wales Police said two people died in the crash near Garndolbenmaen on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesman said that shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday, July 15 emergency services were called to a crash involving a red Volkswagen Polo and a rigid flatbed yellow lorry on the A487 between Garndolbenmaen and Penmorfa.

He said that despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene, both the driver and passenger who were travelling in the Polo, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two women have not yet been named.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Roads Policing Unit is appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

He said: "Sadly this is being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision and our thoughts remain with the family of those who died. They will now be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.

"I am urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who was travelling along the A487 just prior to the collision and who may have dash cam footage to come forward."

He added: "We now need to piece together what happened, so anybody who has information that could assist with the investigation is asked to contact us urgently."

Anybody with information or dash cam footage is asked to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or via the live web chat quoting incident number Y100773 .
