Two women killed and 10 injured in Doncaster taxi crash

Two women have died and 10 people were injured after a collision between two taxis shortly after midnight on Sunday.

At around 12.25am, a Fiat Scudo taxi travelling on Great North Road towards Doncaster and a LTI London taxi driving in the opposite direction crashed into each other near the Mount Pleasant Hotel.

The Fiat taxi contained a 40-year-old driver and six passengers, three men aged 22, 25 and 29 and three women aged 21, 25 and 26.

The LTI London taxi carried a 61-year-old driver and four passengers, two women aged 52 and 59  and two men both aged 58.

The two middle-aged women travelling in the LTI taxi died in the collision.

The two men in the same vehicle were treated for minor injuries as were the two male drivers.

The six passengers in the Fiat were all taken to hospital.

South Yorkshire police is appealing for witnesses, who have seen the accident or either of the vehicle before the collision, to call 101 quoting incident number 26 of 31 January 2016.
