Two women injured after Mercedes smashes into car during police chase

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and 'drug offences' after a crash in Bolton. Police confirmed that a Mercedes smashed into an Audi on Chorley New Road after it had previously failed to stop for traffic officers.

One woman inside the Audi was taken to hospital, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said. Another woman was also injured and treated by paramedics at the scene.

The incident took place at around 8.10pm yesterday evening (April 22). GMP, the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and firefighters all attended.

Chorley New Road was cordoned off, near the Retreat restaurant, following the incident. Photographs shared on social media also show a car on its roof.

A GMP spokesman said: "Officers on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic offence at about 8:10pm on Chorley New Road, Horwich, last night (22 April 2022). The Mercedes failed to stop and then crashed into a second vehicle.

"NWAS and GMFRS also attended and a female occupant of the Audi required hospital treatment for minor injuries. A second woman was also injured. A man is in police custody after being arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving and drug offences."

A GMFRS spokesman added: “At 8:30pm on Friday 22 April 2022, one fire engine from Bolton Central responded to a road traffic collision on Chorley New Road in Bolton. The collision involved two vehicles, with two casualties being treated at the scene by paramedics. Firefighters made the vehicles safe and were in attendance for approximately half an hour.”
