Two women in hospital after car ploughs into tree in late-night smash

Two women have been taken to hospital after a car ploughed into a tree in Moston.

Police, fire crews and the ambulance service were called to the smash on Lightbowne Road at around 11pm on Wednesday, July 15.

Images taken from the scene show a large number of emergency service workers surrounding the car.

The grey Ford Focus Zetec was left a mangled wreck following the crash.

A chunk of the tree can also be seen missing.

Both women were treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

A police spokesman said their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was sealed off in both directions while emergency services attended, but has since re-opened.

Residents in the area described hearing a loud smash, before seeing a plume of smoke emitting from the car.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called to a report of a one-vehicle collision on Lightbowne Road, Manchester at around 11pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

"Collision involved a grey Ford Focus Zetec which hit a tree.

"Two women were taken to hospital, where they remain with non-life-threatening injuries."
