Two women hit by lightning on Mount Snowdon

A woman was knocked unconcious and had blood running down her face after being struck by lightning at the top of Mount Snowdon.

North Wales Police called out the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team to the mountain's summit shortly after 1:30pm today.

The rescue team rushed to the summit by foot, mountain train and rescue helicopter and found two women who had been hit by lightning.

The most seriously injured had blood running down the side of her face and was falling in and out of consciousness - reports Mirror Online.

The other was less badly hurt.

Both were evacuated back down the mountain to Clogwyn station by the rescue team, where they were flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor by the helicopter.

The current condition of the two women is not known.

The broader Snowdonia area has been battered by miserable weather for much of today.

As well as lightning strikes and booming thunder, large hailstones have fallen and ominous looking funnel clouds have formed overhead.

Similarly stormy scenes have been seen in Liverpool where a house was also hit by lightning.

The outlook is not much cheerier for the next couple of days with a Met Office yellow weather warning for rain currently in place for Merseyside until tomorrow morning.
