A double murder investigation has been launched after two women were found dead with stab wounds near Sudbury in Suffolk.

Police were called shortly before 10am on Thursday to an address in Great Waldingfield village and found the bodies of both victims.

A seriously injured man was also found inside the property and was detained, Suffolk Police said, adding that he was taken by air ambulance to hospital - where he remains.

The force has said this was a “contained incident” with no threat to society and that it is likely all three knew each other.

Home Office post mortems for the two women are due to take place in the coming days.

The events followed a reported gas leak at the property - which “has now been made safe” and residents who had to evacuate have been allowed to return home.

Anyone with information should call 101 and report reference 37/57943/22 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
