Two women arrested over death of 18-year-old Cole Kershaw gunned down in Bury street

Two women have been arrested in connection with the death of an 18-year-old who was shot in the street in Bury.

Cole Kershaw was rushed to hospital after a bullet hit him in the shoulder following an altercation on Chesham Road on Wednesday August 12.

Despite treatment he later died in hospital.

Police investigating the incident have now arrested two women on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The women, aged 24 and 25, are currently in custody being questioned by detectives.

Four men who were previously arrested have been released on bail.

Speaking after the initial arrests, Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Butterworth, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: "It’s horrific to think that a young man has lost his life in such brutal circumstances.

"My heart really goes out to Cole’s family and I want to assure them and the wider community that we will leave no stone unturned in this investigation.

"Whilst we have made significant progress, with four people being arrested, it’s vitally important that anyone with information gets in touch with us as a matter of urgency. Please think of Cole’s loved ones and do the right thing and come forward - we need to get them justice."

Police believe the 18-year-old was not the intended target of the shooter, who had been travelling in a vehicle involved in a chase with the car Cole had been in.

Following his death, friends and family have been laying flowers and leaving messages at the scene of the crash.

His brother, Patrick, said: "He was a party animal, an absolute legend.

“He wasn’t involved in anything bad. He loved his boxing and was earning a trade as an apprentice scaffolder.”
