Two women arrested after shotgun, rifle and ammunition found as police descend on field

Two women were arrested after police seized a shotgun, a rifle and ammunition from a property in Kirkby this morning.

Officers descended on a field off Perimeter Road, at around 10.20am, where they carried out a firearms warrant at an address.

During the warrant a number of firearms and ammunition were discovered.

Two women have been arrested in connection to the incident.

One witness told the ECHO, that they had seen police searching an area around a barn in the field on Perimeter Road this morning.

They said: "I was driving to work and I saw two police vans, two police cars and two unmarked cars.

"There were police searching the area with sticks walking around the barn, I returned around 10:30 and they were still there."

Another witness said they saw a fleet of vehicles, including Matrix vans and forensic teams at the scene at around 1pm.

They said that officers appeared to be focusing on a barn in one of the fields.

Detective Inspector Sarbjit Kaur, of Merseyside Police, said: “On this occasion a number of firearms and ammunition have been found.

"We are determined to keep such dangerous firearms off our streets.

"We will continue to disrupt criminals who we suspect may seek to store, carry or even use firearms."

Inspector Sarbjit Kaur added: “We continue to execute warrants to disrupt criminal activity in the area and rely on the community cooperating with us and giving us information which we will act upon.

“Our work has not stopped in the relentless pursuit of criminal activity across Merseyside and we are grateful to the community in helping us seek out criminals and put them before the courts. Please keep talking to us and together we can make a difference to the safety of our community."
