Two women arrested after protesters shut down factory and cover it in paint

Two women have been arrested following a protest at a factory owned by an Israeli military technology company.

Police were called to Greenacres Road, Oldham, just before 6am this morning (August 23), with the road shut both ways.

Photographs taken from the scene show red paint covering the the Ferranti Technologies building, smashed windows and a caravan blocking the road.

Palestine Action banners were also being held aloft.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed that two women have been arrested and that officers are at the scene, as two protesters are still on the roof of a business.

A GMP spokesman said: "Officers were called to reports of a protest at Greenacres Road, Oldham, at about 05.57 am this morning (23 August).

"Two women have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass, criminal damage and obstruction of a highway and remain in custody for questioning.

"Officers remain at the scene as two other protesters are currently positioned on the roof of a business premises. Impact at this time is minimal."
