Two women appear in court charged with child protection and drug offences after baby allegedly fed wine

Two women appeared in court yesterday after a baby allegedly drank wine from a glass bottle at a house in  Midlothian.

Chloe Hutchison, 25 and Zoe Stewart, 22, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday.

Hutchison is facing three charges and made no plea.

She is charged with child protection offences, drug offences and breaching the communications act.

Stewart, of Midlothian, is also charged with child protection offences and made no plea.

The pair were released on bail.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said yesterday: "Police Scotland can confirm that two women - aged 25 and 22 - have been charged with child protection offences following an incident within a property in Mayfield, Midlothian on Tuesday, January 28.

"All children have been traced and provided with appropriate medical attention and care."
