Two women were seriously injured in a 'chemical' attack home invasion in a tiny rural hamlet.
A young child also required hospital treatment after a gang stormed into the property and attacked those inside.
Armed Police were called to Black Dog, in Devon, at 11.30am today, reports Devon Live .There had been reports of a home invasion.
A poisonous, or noxious, chemical was used in the attack and police say one of the suspects is thought to have also brandished a bladed article.
A spokesperson for Devon & Cornwall Police said: "The suspects, the number remains confirmed - the assumption is two, entered the property and attacked the occupants.
"They used an unknown substance - potentially a noxious chemical - in the assault."
The two women were seriously hurt, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, and the young child was taken to hospital as a precaution.
It's thought the suspects fled from the scene in a car parked nearby.
There is not thought to be a wider threat to the public despite the suspects remaining at large.
The landlord of The Black Dog pub said he witnessed the large presence of emergency services earlier today.
He saw around three fire engines, ambulances and police cars.
He was surprised by news of the incident.
"We very rarely get emergency services here, unless someone is poorly," he added, "It is a quiet little hamlet."
