Two Wigan Athletic players test positive for coronavirus ahead of Crewe Alexandra match

Two Wigan Athletic players are self-isolating after returning positive texts for coronavirus.

The League One club has announced that defenders Nathan Cameron and Adam Long are both asymptomatic for the illness, despite testing positive.

It means that the duo will now miss tomorrow's trip to the Alexandra Stadium to take on Crewe Alexandra due to having to self-isolate for 10 days.

The rest of the Latics first team squad tested negative.

A club statement read: "Wigan Athletic defenders Nathan Cameron and Adam Long are both currently self-isolating after returning positive COVID-19 test results.

"Both players are asymptomatic and feel well, though they must now self-isolate from the rest of the squad for ten days, in line with government guidance.

"All other first team squad members returned negative test results in the most recent round of full squad testing ahead of Saturday’s trip to Crewe Alexandra."

Wigan go into the game on the back of two successive wins in League One against Portsmouth and Doncaster Rovers.

Tomorrow's opponents Crewe will themselves be without four players who have all returned positive tests.

They include defender Omar Beckles and midfielder Ryan Wintle.

Crewe's match last weekend away to Oxford United was called off before kick-off after it came to light that Beckles had returned a positive test.
