Two West Lothian sport clubs are celebrating after they received a share £62,500 of National Lottery cash thanks to sportscotland’s Direct Club Investment (DCI) funding programme.
West Lothian Community Table Tennis Club and West Lothian Handball are to receive £29,500 and £33,000 respectively over the next four years to help them deliver increased participation opportunities in local communities.
DCI is a key component of sportscotland’s commitment towards club development.
The programme prioritises engaging the inactive and underrepresented, including girls and young women, people with a disability and people living in Scotland’s most disadvantaged communities.
Chair of sportscotland, Mel Young, said: “Direct Club Investment is central to this, but we can only make change with the support of the many dedicated coaches, officials and volunteers who make sport happen right across the country.
“Nowhere is this more evident than in the work of the clubs that are receiving funds as part of the latest round of DCI.
“They are helping create opportunities for people participate at a grassroots level.”
West Lothian Community Table Tennis Club will use the funding to engage a part-time development officer to increase participation of all ages and abilities by coordinating and overseeing classes in community venues across West Lothian.
Meanwhile, West Lothian Handball will employ a part-time community coach to develop a community programme in West Lothian, expanding into Broxburn, West Calder, Bathgate.
