HYDERABAD: The Special Operations Team (SOT) of Rachakonda arrested two inter-state drug peddlers and seized 1.5 kilo opium from their possession.
Acting on specific information, SOT sleuths of LB Nagar zone along with Uppal police busted the drug syndicate and arrested Mangi Lal (22) and Om Prakash (26) welders from Boduppal.
Along with opium, a scooter and two cellphones, all worth Rs 12.5 lakh, were also recovered. The value of the seized opium in international market will be over Rs1 crore, police said.
Police nabbed the duo near Uppal bus stop. During the interrogation, the accused confessed that they are natives of Rajasthan. Mangi Lal disclosed that he came in contact with drug peddler Rahul of Rajasthan two years ago. “The accused confessed that Rahul brings opium from Rajasthan to Hyderabad and they procure it from him for local sale,” police said.
Malkajgiri DCP Rakshita Murthy said that as part of the crackdown against sale and consumption of narcotics, they have been keeping a strict watch against the movements of the peddlers. “We will gather details about the customers. We will also try to gather information about other peddlers who are active,” the DCP said. Police are dispatching a team to Rajasthan to zero in on Rahul.
