Two vehicles towed on busy Edinburgh road as police carry out weekend patrols

Two Edinburgh drivers found themselves in hot water as their vehicles were towed by police.

Officers from the Road Policing Scotland division have been carrying out patrols this weekend.

Two vehicles were seized after being pulled over by police on a busy road in the capital this Saturday (7 November).

One driver was found to have no insurance and their vehicle was towed away.

Meanwhile, a further driver had no insurance for their car and was driving illegally without a licence.

The car was seized and the driver was reported to the procurator fiscal.

In a statement on Twitter, police said: "Edinburgh Road Police seized two vehicles this morning for no insurance as part of the #OpDriveInsured campaign.

"One driver was reported to the PF for driving without a licence and for having no insurance and the second for having no insurance."

Elsewhere on the roads, Edinburgh Council announced that five new bus lane cameras went live across the city on Monday (2 November).

The new cameras have been set up in addition to a selection of others on main roads to discourage motorists from breaking the rules.

From 23 November, anyone caught in the cameras will receive a penalty from the council.
