Two-vehicle crash shuts road both ways in Wenvoe on the outskirts of Cardiff

A road was closed in both directions after a two-vehicle crash in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The A4050 was shut for a number of hours after the incident between the A4231 and St Andrews Road near Wenvoe on Monday evening.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called to the area at 5.30pm.

Heavy traffic was reported in the area.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix said the road reopened at around 9.30pm.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Shortly after 5.30pm yesterday emergency services were called to a road traffic collision which happened on Port Road West near the Garden centre.

"Three vehicles were involved.

"Officers remained at the scene until ambulance attended.

"Once ambulance had arrived it was decided that the male would have to be removed on a spinal board by fire and rescue service.

"On their arrival the road was closed to allow for a safe extraction.

"The roof of the vehicle had to be removed and the motorist was taken to the University Hospital for Wales by ambulance."
