Two college football players are recovering in hospital after being shot at a party on Saturday night.

Tight end Lo Falemaka and running back Marcel Brooks-Brown, both of the Utah Utes, were shot in the torso and are said to be in a stable condition.

“Obviously, our first concern is that both Lo and Marcel are going to be OK, which appears to be the case,” the Utah coach, Kyle Whittingham, said on Sunday. “We don’t have all of the details yet, but it is our understanding that they are the victims in this incident and we feel very fortunate that they are expected to fully recover.

“It is unknown at this time how soon they will be able to return to the football field, but we are optimistic it will be in the near future.”

The incident occurred at a Salt Lake City party. Falemaka and Brooks-Brown had turned away three men from the party when one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot them. The suspects fled the scene and have not yet been caught by police.
