Two types of tuna have been recalled amid fears they could make customers very poorly.
More than 12 lunch and food options have been recalled after they were found to be infected with listeria.
Reser's Fine Foods have recalled over a number of salads and sandwiches with the fish in due to the potential listeria links, and are advising customers not to consume them.
Listeria bacteria can make people seriously ill and can cause Listeriosis, an infection which can result in vomiting, diarrhoea, chills and muscle aches.
It can even lead to serious and sometimes fatal infections in vulnerable people such as young children, frail or elderly people, and those pregnant.
The bacteria can even cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The tuna affected is in the US and is sold at the Albertsons, Randalls, and Tom Thumb stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.
All of those who may be affected are voluntarily recalling the tuna salad items supplied by Reser’s Fine Foods, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration announcement read.
Listeria bacteria was found to have possibly contaminated the breadcrumbs, an ingredient used in the tuna salad.
Items to be recalled include the following products at Albertsons, Randalls and Tom Thumb stores, AR, LA, OK and TX (name/UPC/sell-by date):
FDA officials urged anyone who bought the tuna products “to use extra vigilance in cleaning and sanitising any surfaces and containers that may have come in contact with these products to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.”
Customers who bought any of the listed items are being advised not to eat any of it and to dispose of them immediately.
Alternatively, they can return the items to their local store for a full refund.
Anyone with questions should contact Albertsons Companies’ Customer Service Center at 1-877-723-3929 Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PST.
