Two tropical disturbances form around Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. _ Two areas of disturbed weather that could form into tropical systems were being tracked Tuesday morning. One system is in the Caribbean Sea, another in the Atlantic, and both several hundred miles from Florida with low chances of tropical development, the National Hurricane Center reported in its 8 a.m. Tuesday update.

The first is a broad area of low pressure located between Grand Cayman and Jamaica.

The area of disorganized showers has a 10% chance of slowly becoming a tropical depression in the next two to five days as it moves west-northwest toward the Yucatan peninsula.

The second area of disturbance is a cluster of disorganized cloudiness and showers east of the southeastern Bahamas and has a 10% chance of slowly developing in the next five days as well as a 10% chance of doing the same in the next 48 hours.

Meteorologists expect the system to move northeast far away from Florida's horizon.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Lorenzo continues to approach the Azores in the east Atlantic Ocean, but its effects are also being felt in Florida. As of 8 a.m., the Category 2 hurricane has 100 mph winds and is located 555 miles from the island of Flores in the western Azores heading northeast at 22 mph.

The center of the massive storm is projected to pass near the Azores early Wednesday. It has hurricane-force winds out 90 miles and tropical-storm-force winds out 345 miles.

The storm continues to send massive swells across the North Atlantic.

"A high risk of dangerous and life-threatening rip currents will be present at all east central Florida beaches today due to long period swell from Hurricane Lorenzo," said forecasters with the National Weather Service in Melbourne. "Beachgoers are urged to be extremely cautious at the coast today and to avoid entering the surf, no matter what skill of swimmer."
