Train collision near Bedford leaves one dead and multiple people injured

  • Emergency services are responding to an incident on a railway line south of Bedford , following initial reports of a collision involving two trains.
  • British Transport Police have confirmed that one person has died, while 33 people have suffered “very serious” or “serious” injuries following the crash.
  • Bedford Hospital urged members of the public to not attend the Accident & Emergency department unless they have a “genuine medical emergency.”
  • East Midlands Railways released a statement which read: “Trains are unable to run in or out on London St Pancras for the remainder of this evening. Customers are advised DO NOT TRAVEL this evening (19th June).”
  • Keir Starmer said news of the collision was “hugely concerning”, adding that he is “grateful to the emergency services for their swift response to this tragic incident”.
