Two TONNES of revolting junk cleared from Harehills bin yard

This is the disgusting state of a Leeds street - littered with over two tonnes of illegally dumped waste.

The Clean Leeds team from Leeds City Council posted images of the clean-up operation in Harehills on social media, after finding ruined mattresses, household junk and old furniture left to rot in a bin yard.

The workers also posted advice to hundreds of homes in the Compton estate area of Harehills in a bid to remind residents of the laws regarding fly-tipping.

In a post on Twitter, they said: " Team #Harehills got down & dirty in the bin yards in the #Comptons today. #enforcement officers & #streetcleansing worked together to #litterpick & clean almost 2tonnes of #illegally deposited #waste! An advice letter RE: #littering #flytipping & #binyards was given to 100 homes"

Earlier this year, the council handed six individuals from Harehills fines of more than £7,000 in relation to fly-tipping.

In recent years the area has become a hotspot for littering and fly-tipping and in an effort to cut down on anti-social behaviour and littering in the area, there is currently a Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) for the area.

This gives officers increased powers to prosecute persistent offenders for a range of issues which vary from street drinking to fly-tipping and even not bringing their bins in off the streets.
