Two toddlers and four more kids hospitalised with Covid in Ireland in recent days

Two toddlers and four kids have been hospitalised with Covid-19 in Ireland in recent days.

Latest HPSC data shows that the number of children between the ages of 0-4 that have been hospitalised by the virus has risen from 29 to 31 since last Sunday.

The amount of kids aged 4-13 brought to hospital for Covid has also jumped from 20 to 24 in that period.

That's according to the latest data released by the HPSC on Friday which runs up until the last day of September.

Exact times and where the individual cases are is not revealed to keep the identity of patients hidden.

Since the pandemic began just one child between the ages of 0-4 has been admitted to ICU while two in the 4-13 age bracket have been.

The Department of Health have expressed their concern at the latest hospital figures while cases continue to surge.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health said: “The situation nationally is a matter of serious concern and NPHET is now recommending that no more than two households should meet at any given time.

"It is vital that everyone - families, friends and neighbours - limit the opportunities this virus has to move from person to person and stop the spread of the disease across households.

"Behave as though you have the virus and keep yourself and those around you safe – don’t take a risk by organising or attending gatherings with more than one other household.”
