A Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) ‘commander’ was killed in an ongoing operation in Baramulla’s Sopore on Wednesday.

Police identified the slain militant as Sajad Nawab Dar, a resident of Saidpora, Sopore.

“On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by the police, the Army and the CRPF in Gulabad, Arampora area of Sopore. During the search operation, the hiding terrorist fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. One killed so far,” the police said.

The militant was killed after the security forces blasted the house where the militant was holed up. Earlier, the police suspected two to four militants were trapped in the house. “We are searching the debris of the house for more bodies,” the police said.

Meanwhile, one AK-47 rifle, one AK-Magazine, and one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher were recovered from the slain militant’s possession.

“Dar was wanted for his complicity in terror crimes, including attacks on security establishments. He was also involved in recruitment of youth for terrorism in north Kashmir,” the police said.
