Two teens dead after horror motorbike crash in Wishaw sparking police probe

Two teenagers have died after a horror motorcycle crash in Wishaw last night.

Officers from Police Scotland and paramedics swarmed Ryde Road near its junction with Waverley Drive after the alarm was raised at around 4.30pm.

The incident involved an off-road motorcycle and a white Volkswagen Crafter van.

The 19-year-old male bike driver was discovered dead at the scene after colliding with a van at around 4.30pm yesterday.

His 18-year-old male passenger was rushed to Wishaw General Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The 34-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Crafter van suffered minor injuries.

Officers have now launched an investigation into the crash and are appealing for dashcam footage.

The busy street was lockdown by officers till around 11pm while diversions were put in place for passing motorists.

Sergeant Ryan McAuley of the Road Policing Unit in Motherwell said: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this crash.

"Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and we would urge anyone with information to come forward.

"Anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage is asked to check this and pass on anything of note to police.

"You can pass on information to police by calling 101, quoting incident 2032 of 25 February."
