Two teens charged after hit-and-run death of 'gentle giant' in Melbourne

Two teenagers have been charged over a fiery hit-and-run that killed a motorcyclist in Melbourne's east, as the victim's family says his shocking death is being felt by loved ones around the world.

Keith Stevens, 33, died in hospital on Thursday after he was hit by a stolen black BMW four-wheel drive at Mitcham the day before.

He suffered significant bone fractures and burns to 50 per cent of his body after the car dragged his motorcycle 85 metres before it burst into flames.

A 17-year-old male has been charged with culpable driving and numerous aggravated burglary offences.

He has been remanded to a children's court at a later date.

An 18-year-old Seaford man will appear before a bail justice tonight charged with aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary and other offences.

Police have said there were four people in the car who allegedly fled the scene.

Detectives are continuing to look for two more people.

In a statement, Mr Stevens' family said he was a loving father, partner and son.

"Born in Scotland he called Australia home. His death is being felt by the lives he touched around the world," they said.

"Keith was our gentle giant and he leaves behind shocked friends and family.

"We would like to thank the caring people who tried to help Keith and Victoria Police for all of their support."

Mr Stevens, a sheet metal worker, lived in Mitcham and was on his way home when he was struck.
