Two teenagers arrested in Hindley after police find drugs in car

Two teenagers have been arrested for multiple offences in Wigan.

Police spotted an uninsured car driving erratically along Atherton Road, Hindley on Monday evening (July 20).

Just before 8.30pm, the car came to a stop on a car park in Long Lane and the occupants ran away. Shortly after, officers said that the driver and a passenger then returned to the car as the passenger had left his phone inside.

After police spoke to both of them, the passenger ran away again but was caught after a short foot chase.

The car was searched and a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs and an offensive weapon.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance, driving without a licence, possession of class B drugs and obstructing police.

Police also seized the car due to it having no inusrance.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said: Officers on duty in the Hindley area on Monday 20th July 2020 arrested two males in relation to a vehicle.

"Officers witnessed a vehicle driving erratically on Atherton Road and the vehicle parked on a car park on Long Lane and for some unknown reason the occupants fled quickly and left items of note in the vehicle.

"The driver returned along with a passenger requesting his phone back from the vehicle. When spoken to in relation to driving offences and a search conducted under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act the passenger decided to flee again! A short chase later and he was apprehended.

"At 20:32 a 16 year old male was arrested on suspicion of possession of class B and an offensive weapon and an 18 year old male was arrested on suspicion of driving without insurance, a license, possession of class B and obstruct police.

"The vehicle was also seized for having no insurance."
