Two teenagers arrested after Mearns Primary School fire

Two 15-year-old boys have been arrested after a fire broke out at a primary school in East Renfrewshire.

We told how the blaze on Sunday eveing.

Fire crews raced to the campus building in Hunter Drive at around 7.30pm to tackle the blaze.

Police said on Friday that they've arrested to teenagers in connection with the blaze.

While fire damage was limited to just one classroom, the school was deemed too unsafe to open on Monday.

School pupils returned to lessons on Tuesday.

Nursery kids on the other hand could not return until Wednesday as completion of refurbishment work was delayed due to the incident.

A spokesman from Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland can confirm that two 15-year-old boys have been charged in connection with a fire at Mearns Primary School in Newton Mearns Mearns on Sunday, October 20.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and Scottish Childrens Reporter Association."
