The 15 and 16-year-old boys were attacked on footpath at around 9.30pm near to Dumbarton East train station on Glasgow Road.

One was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.

Police Scotland are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the attack or suspects to come forward.

The suspects are described as males, wearing dark hoodies or jackets, one was wearing a navy blue Lacoste tracksuit, and all had masks on.

Detective Constable Susanne Church from Clydebank CID said: “We are appealing for the public’s help in tracing those responsible for this attack.

“A lady stepped in to help the boys and stopped the assault.
