Two teenage boys and man, 21, arrested after a car flipped onto its side in a crash near Mancunian Way

Two teenage boys and a 21-year-old man have been arrested after a car flipped onto its side in a crash in the city centre.

Moments earlier the car had been seen by police 'travelling at speed' on the Mancunian Way.

Officers asked the driver to pull over, he failed to do so and the car exited at the next junction.

The crash, which police didn't witness, took place shortly after on Downing Street close to where it passes under the Mancunian Way.

One of the occupants of the car ran off, but was later detained by police.

A 21-year-old man and two boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and B drugs with intent to supply, suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop for police, and driving with no licence and no insurance.

The 16-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article.

The 21-year-old was taken to hospital while under arrest and was later discharged and taken into custody.

They remain in custody for questioning.

A picture from the scene shows a silver car on its side on the central reservation with debris strewn across the carriageway.

In a statement GMP said: "Police were called at around 5.15pm on Sunday to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on Downing Street in Manchester city centre.
