Two taken to hospital - one with major trauma injuries - following crash in Salford

Two people have been taken to hospital - one with major trauma injuries - following a crash in Salford.

There was a large emergency service presence in Eccles New Road, in Weaste, following the two-vehicle smash at about 9.15pm on Sunday.

Firefighters had to cut one person free from a car before paramedics treated three patients at the scene.

Two were then taken to hospital. Their ages and gender have not been revealed, but one was found to be suffering from major trauma injuries.

Pictures from the scene show firefighters surrounding two vehicles, near to the junction with West Ashton Street.

Following the crash, the road was sealed off in both directions between South Langworthy Road and Thurlow Street for several hours.

It eventually reopened shortly after midnight.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a collision in Eccles New Road, Salford, at about 9.15pm on Sunday.

"We treated three patients and took two to hospital. One was suffering from major trauma."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service said: "Two engines from Salford attended a road traffic collision on Eccles New Road at 9.20pm on Sunday, June 7.

"The collision involved two vehicles. Crews extracted one casualty from a vehicle who was transferred to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

"We were on the scheme for approximately 50 mins."

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for further information.
