Two taken to hospital after 'serious' Monaro Highway collision

Two people have been taken to hospital following a "serious" two-car collision on the Monaro Highway.

The collision happened about 8am on the southbound lanes of the highway at Fyshwick near Canturf, just before the Newcastle Street off-ramp.

An ACT police spokesman said the collision was "serious".

Paramedics treated two drivers at the scene of the collision and took them to Canberra Hospital.

ACT police said two southbound lanes were blocked as a result of the collision.

While the road blocks were cleared just before 9am, traffic authorities have urged drivers to avoid the area.

Police closed the Monaro Highway for almost an hour due to the collision.
