Two taken to hospital after crash shuts main road

Two patients have been taken to hospital following a crash on Bury New Road in Whitefield.

It is unclear at this stage how badly injured the patients were following the smash at 8am this morning (Wednesday).

The road was taped off in both directions between Rufford Drive and Radcliffe New Road, according to traffic website Inrix.

At 10am, TfGM tweeted that the road had reopened.

A North West Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the crash is understood to have involved one vehicle.

She said: "We were called at 8.11am to a road traffic collision, it is believed to be one vehicle involved. We have a couple of responses at the scene. We have sent an ambulance and a private ambulance.

"We have taken one patient to North Manchester General Hospital. We have taken another patient to Fairfield General Hospital."

TfGM also tweeted about the incident, saying: "Bury New Road, Whitefield is closed in both directions.

"This is due to an RTC. Follow @gnwbus for diversion information.

"Allow extra time for your journey."

They tweeted an update to say the road reopened at 10am.
