Two suspects arrested over 'masked men' shooting at University of Limerick in 2015 after garda operation

Two men are due before the Special Criminal Court in Dublin in connection with a shooting in 2015.

Two masked gunmen shot a man, in his 50s, seriously injuring him as he parked his car at University of Limerick shortly after 6.30am on June 29, 2015.

And on Tuesday, nearly five years after the incident, a suspect, in his 40s, was arrested in Co Donegal after a garda operation.

A second suspect, in his 30s, was also arrested in Limerick city on the same day.

They are to appear before a sitting at the Criminal Courts of Justice at 3pm on Wednesday.

A spokesman said: "Gardaí have arrested two men in relation to a shooting incident in Co. Limerick June 29, 2015.

"At approximately 6.35am a man (50s) was shot by two masked men as he parked his car in the grounds of the University of Limerick.

"On June 2, 2020 Gardaí from the Henry Street District, with the assistance of local Gardaí and the Armed Support Unit from Limerick and the North Western Region, carried out an arrest operation in Donegal and arrested a man (40s).

"At the same time, a second operation was carried out in Limerick city and a man (30s) was also arrested.

"The two men were brought to Henry Street Garda Station and are due to appear before a sitting of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, Criminal Courts of Justice today at 3pm."
