Two suffer burn injuries as fire breaks out at police station in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: Two persons including a head moharrir, a policeman, of Sarojini Nagar police station suffered burns after a fire broke out during the tin shed welding work inside the police station premises on Saturday afternoon.

The injured head moharrir is incharge of the maalkhana of the police station.

The injured head moharrir was identified as Vsudev Pathak while the welder was identified as Salman of Rahimabad police station area in Maal. Vasudev suffered the burns when he was removing the articles placed there to facilitate space for the welder to do work easily.

DCP South, Vinit Jaiswal in an e-byte said the victim suffered simple injuries and they had been admitted to CHC in the area. Giving details of the incident he said a labourer was welding joints in a tin shed structure outside a building inside the police station premises.

"A spark flew and it fell over the drums of oil put near the tin shed and caught fire. Before the head moharrir and the welder could understand the gravity of the situation, the drum exploded due to the fire and both were engulfed in the fire. However, both victims suffered burns in their legs only and they hurriedly moved away from the scene," the DCP said.

He said three fire tenders were immediately sent to the place and the fire was doused successfully. “There were unclaimed vehicles parked inside the station premises and close to the accident site. The fire engulfed two of these vehicles which were burnt completely. A few other vehicles were signed in the fire,” he said.

He said a fact finding probe had been set up in the case to find out the detailed reason due to which the fire broke out.
