Two Stanley clubs closed due to coronavirus deep-cleaned by specialist firm

Two County Durham clubs have been deep-cleaned after being closed due to coronavirus.

The Phoenix Club and The Ball Alley, both in Stanley, have had a specialist team to have the areas ‘fogged’ with a germ killing spray.

The clubs confirmed they had closed after a customer tested positive for the virus, with the East Stanley Working Men’s Club and the Stanley Empire Club also closing.

Health bosses confirmed eight people linked to the Empire Club have tested positive for Covid-19.

Sparkle N Shine Cleaning Service has now fogged the Phoenix Club, on Blooms Avenue, and The Ball Alley, on Kip Hill.

Alec Marshall, who owns the service and Annfield Plain Hand Car Wash, said: "We have been fogging for a while and done it before the coronavirus with a solution that kills germs, bacteria and mould but this solution kills coronavirus, influenza, and HIV.

“We have been doing premises in Stanley, Chester-le-Street and all over.

“What we do is fog the chairs, seats, curtains and then let the room fill with fog.

“Once the fog has filled the room you leave it for 30 minutes and don’t go in the room, then you start cleaning it.”

Alec, 32, said the firm also regularly fog taxis to make sure they are safe for passengers and drivers.

He added: “We do restaurants, pubs, clubs, any business that can be affected."

Writing on Facebook, a spokesman for the Phoenix Club said: “We started deep cleaning work with a fogging treatment and will be completing a thorough clean of everything in the next few days.

“We'll also be reviewing safety measures and if needed making changes.”

Health bosses believe 100 people could be at risk of contracting coronavirus after the positive test results at Stanley Empire Bar.

Anyone who visited the club on August 9, 10 or 11 is being asked to self-isolate.

As well as self-isolating, punters who test positive are also being asked to ensure that other members of their household also self-isolate for 14 days.
