Two out-of-control Staffordshire Bull Terriers savagely mauled a dog to death as they roamed free around a park.
Eyewitnesses say the Staffies owners were nowhere to be seen as they pounced on a pet which was out for a walk at around 6.35am on Sunday.
Members of the public called police after the Staffies started attacking the dog at Lyme Valley Parkway, Stoke on Trent Live reports.
Officers attended the scene and were able to detain the dogs.
They have now confirmed the other dog died as a result of its horrific injuries.

The owners of the Staffies were later traced and they are set to be interviewed.
Staffordshire Police are asking any witnesses to come forward, who may have seen the Staffies, one was described as brindle, while the other was black and white.
A spokesman said: "We were called to a report of a dog being attacked by two other dogs on Lyme Valley Park at around 6.35am on Sunday, May 19.

"The dog sadly died as a result of its injuries and the other two dogs were safely detained.
"Officers have identified the owners of the two dogs and will be voluntarily interviewing them in due course.
"Anyone with information about the incident is asked to get in touch."
