Two staff members test positive for coronavirus at Odeon Silverlink cinema

Two members of staff at a cinema have tested positive for Covid-19, bosses have confirmed.

The two employees, based at the Odeon Silverlink, in North Tyneside, were isolated and are now recovering at home.

The cinema says they have been able to keep the site open for customers after following strict protocols in line with Government guidance.

A spokesperson for Odeon said: "We have robust measures in place to ensure the safety of our colleagues and guests.

"Having tested our relevant colleagues at Silverlink, two colleagues who tested positive were isolated and are now recovering at home.

"In this case, we responded at speed and in line with Government guidelines. The strength and effectiveness of our detailed cleaning measures ensured that our cinema remained open and safe."

Cinemas in England were allowed to reopen from July 4, though only a select number of venues opened on that date, with many opting to resume screenings later in the summer.

Some Odeon cinemas also opened on July 4 and the rest have been opening gradually since then.

The company has put safety measures in place such as limited tickets, enhanced cleaning, staggered show start times and social distancing rules to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

In addition, customers are asked to book online and contactless payments are in use for food and drinks.
