Two southside roads to remain closed after massive blaze due to ongoing safety concerns

Two southside roads are to remain closed after a devastating fire ripped through a tenement building last November.

Albert Drive will be closed between Kenmure Street and Glenapp Street while Kenmure Street will be blocked to traffic between Leslie Street and Albert Drive.

The fire occurred on November 18, and is thought to have begun in Strawberry and Spice Gardens minimarket at around 11:30pm.

More than 40 properties were evacuated as flames ripped through the homes above.

Glasgow City Council has now announced that due to the "safety exclusion zone" the roads will be closed until further notice.

Drivers have been warned to expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

A statement from the local authority reads: "Due to recent building fire and current safety exclusion zone, Albert Drive (between Kenmure Street and Glenapp Street) and Kenmure Street (between Leslie Street and Albert Drive) will remain closed until further notice.

"Delays may be experienced, especially during peak periods and drivers are advised to use an alternative route if possible."

Local diversions will be signposted for drivers.
